Module 6

I learned so much about the management and flow of large amounts of sensitive medical information that needs to be accessed instantly by those caring for the patient yet preserving patient confidentiality. I learned how security mechanisms are set up be less cumbersome yet provide a high level of protection. I also learned about the process to modify and protect information in large systems. I also learned the tips for keeping information protected and how to use the system for my own private use in a safe way.

Module 5

I was amazed at how the readings were able to clarify and draw attention to my own decision-making processes. Sometimes I am so busy that I would rush to judgment or stick with the status quo. Now I have a better sense of what should go in to decision making and feel more comfortable taking the time needed to have a rationale that is applicable that makes sense from different viewpoints. I also know that my decision-making ability needs to informed with good data and to surround myself with colleagues that I can trust and seek advice from for areas that I need. It was also informative to have the critical role of intuition described fully as this I feel is important to understand.

Module 4

I can’t imagine any nursing/health care providers who do not involve teaching. Every day, what I do with clients is teaching. I can’t imagine my professional role without not involving teaching. Teaching is a important part of our role. Most of teachings so far I have done are psycho-education about diseases, medications (psychotropic medications), and patient care teaching such as healthy behaviors, healthy diets, and crisis Interventions. Most time I use explanations, giving handouts so that clients have extra resources to look at. After the Module 4, I realize that I should invest more time to create fun and effective teaching methods to enhance learning. For example, I could have used color pictures of psychotropic medications to enhance clients’ learning visually. When I create handouts for teaching, I also can use variety of methods to increase effectiveness of teaching, maximizing learning capacity.  Or I could search websites that may be helpful for clients that are met HON code criteria.
