WEEK 2

I am so relieved that the first two weeks went smoothly. I am still figuring out how to organize my class schdules such as tests, assignments, and readings. Becuase I am hyper focued on things, I have difficulty in distrubuting my attention. In addition, I need to adjust to work extra clinical hours for this semester. I welcome good advice from you.
Last Friday, I started to participate in the LGBT-Q Group Therapy. Most of members are transgenders. I want to learn more about this population and hopefully gain understanding to help them in clinical practice. The first thing that I had to face was to be aware of belief and attitude of this popuplation. Is my understanding and my real reaction matched? Is my attitude consitent with my belief? It made me think about issues that I never thought about. I searched and got information from various resources- I found several support groups and communities;unfortunately some of them are not allowed to public. Anyway, there were so much information that is new to me and I am glad that the internet and wensites allow this service.

  1. Hi Eunyoung
Seems like you had a very busy week, hang in there you are doing well. Organization is the key and it seems like you have that down. Thank you for sharing your experience with the LGBT-Q group - very interesting. As you mentioned the internet may help you obtain information into your population of interest - there maybe internet based focus groups that you may be able to join. Good hunting, looking forward to reading more on your experiences through the semester.

  2. Hi Eunyoung! :0) Your group sounds very interesting as well as challenging. Occasionally we have trangender pts who are admitted to my unit (inpt Psych) it is intersting to me and I wonder are they depressed and suicidal because of the turmoil and hardships they face trying to be another sex? Or could it be the hormones some of them take and it causing a chemical imbalance? Keep me posted as to how you like the group and your insight!
